In "The Dark Side of Nowhere," I wanted to address issues of cult mentality, and the kind of institutionalized racism that can kill millions of people, or just one. It's all wrapped up in a sci-fi action story, that's a metaphor for the many issues I try to address. Kirkus Reviews wrote "Shusterman seamlessly combines gritty, heart-stopping plotting with a wealth of complex issues; this book is a natural in and out of the classroom." Publisher's Weekly calls it "...a science-fiction page-turner in a classic mold."

Neil Shusterman is a novelist and screenwriter. His works include Speeding Bullet, The Shadow Club, The Eyes of Kid Midas, and What Daddy Did. Mr. Shusterman lives with his family in southern California.
