My favorite part is the "Cool Careers Catalog," which consists of quick reviews of 512 fine careers, including many that most people haven't even heard of. I also especially like the chapter "29 Extra-Strength Cures for Procrastination" and the advice on how to use the Web in a job search. The Internet can be overwhelming and this book makes it an accessible career resource.
Other guides tend to make the process unnecessarily complicated: you have to fill out dozens of pages of worksheets just to figure out your skills, interests and values; and after all that, you're left on your own to figure out which careers fit. Cool Careers For Dummies makes career-finding much easier. It also simplifies the process of LANDING the job. I've found that many people aren't good at the very things that job search guides recommend: networking and cold calling. This book shows you how to land the job even if you're shy and don't have a 500-person rolodex.
Developing the approach in this book has been my obsession for the last dozen years and I'm excited to see it in print. I really believe it will help people and it's fun to read!
