The first lunar landing, the Watergate break-in, the release from prison of Nelson Mandela, the death of Princess Diana, the 9/11 attacks . . . . These momentous events are among the thousands that have shaped world history down through the centuries. This remarkable book presents enthralling accounts of 1001 life-changing events that have determined the rise and fall of civilizations. From the foundation of Rome on April 21, 753 B.C.E to the execution of Saddam Hussein on December 30, 2006 . . . and from the Battle of Marathon on September 21, 490 B.C.E. to the peace accord in Northern Ireland in 2007, . 1001 Days That Shaped the World describes memorable incidents, decisive encounters, great natural disasters, and other momentous events that have changed the world forever.

Compiled by historian Peter Furtado, and based on expert research produced by an international team of historians, journalists, and scientists, . 1001 Days That Shaped the World offers detailed accounts of world-changing events, each supplemented with an assessment of the event's long-term physical, cultural, social, or economic impact on succeeding generations. Evocative art and dramatic photos complement incisive text in this essential guide to world history, and to the events that have shaped the world as it exists today.
