Review:
This book can be a real problem you pick it up for a quick thumb through and the next thing you know, you ve lost an hour. Yes, it would be easy to dismiss this as a coffee-table book, but Art of the Hot Rod is so much more than that given its sheer bulk it also represents very good value. Harholdt s pictures are simply sublime and the choice of rods is absolutely spot-on from the classic 32 Ford Roadster to Sixties Thunderbirds the book s contents mixes the new with the well-known like So-Cal s 1951 Belly Tank racer. The only problem we found is that the pictures are so fantastically distracting that it s actually hard to concentrate on the black squiggly written stuff but if you make the effort, you ll find it very informative. Literally inspiring literally. --Dep-O Magazine dot ;This book gives readers the opportunity to step inside the private world of 22 of the top hot rod builders in a way that s never been done. However, one title called Art of the HOT ROD by Ken Gross, has jumped the queue. Why? You might ask. Well the answer is because this publication stands head and shoulders above many other titles we ve seen of late. The quality of photographs is superb, the editorial content entertaining and to the point and this book will be of huge interest to all hot rodders, whether you like painted or unpainted cars. If I told you this publication is more like a hardback, thicker version of The Rodders Journal then this wouldn t be too far from the truth. This is a quality publication with great design, creative use of images, written by a hot rodder for hot rodders. There are chapters (mainly pictorial) devoted to all of the established builders, such as Bobby Alloway, Troy Trepanier, Barry Lobeck, Rick Dore, Steve Moal, Roy Brizio, Rolling Bones and many, many others with stunning photographs throughout from established studio photographer, Peter Harholdt --Drag Rod and Classics dot com;Excellent, good-value tome. --Evening Standard&;This book gives readers the opportunity to step inside the private world of 22 of the top hot rod builders in a way that s never been done. Part mechanical sculpture, part show car, and part speed machine, the hot rods presented in Art of the Hot Rod show the past, present, and future of fabrication, custom painting, and craftsmanship. With the help of author and hot rodder Ken Gross, twenty of today’s top builders explain their love of hot rodding, the philosophy they bring to their craft, and exhibit the best of their work in the gorgeous photography of Peter Harholdt.
