Brave and beautiful, strong and devoted, the horses in this book are memorable characters in their own right. This collection of stories and extracts features the best writing about horses and ponies from classic authors such as Anna Sewell, Monica Dickens, Mary O'Hara and Arthur Conan Doyle, as well as contemporary writers such as Michael Morpurgo and Christine Pullein-Thompson herself. The pieces have been carefully selected to appeal to horse-lovers; they vary in style and atmosphere but are all thrilling, moving works by writers who really understand horses. Victor Ambrus's black-and-white illustrations capture the majesty of these magnificent beasts.
