The seaside village of Skegness began to flourish towards the end of the nineteenth century; between 1871 and 1931 its population grew from 349 to 9,122. The photographs in this selection show not only its development into a coastal resort - with images of swingboats and roundabouts on the sands and bathing machines and pleasure boats by the water's edge - but also images from the surrounding villages and towns, including Wainfleet, Friskney, Ingoldmells and Burgh-le-March, and stretching as far as Alford and Spilsby
