It then focuses on the clinical manifestations of ion channel dysfunction. Beginning with basic physiology, molecular biology, genetics and pharmacology of the ion channels, it next considers methods of assessing ion channel function in vitro and in clinical practice. It elucidates the role of altered ion channel gene expression in normal development, and in response to injury or demyelination. It reviews the neurological diseases caused by both hereditary or acquired channelopathies.The chapters are written by international authorities and brings together a unique combination of the scientific and clinical for clinical neurologists and other neuroscientists.
