Synopsis

When Victoria and Guy Blakeney-Jones inherit the tiny Cornish island of Trelise, they look on the restoration of the island's famous garden as a wonderful challenge. And the garden, established by Guy's ancestor Joshua Jones in 1847, is certainly unusual, its construction reflecting a bizarre and disturbing vision. But as restoration gets underway, Victoria begins to realize what else the overgrown terraces are hiding, when a skeleton is uncovered. Sensing an intriguing mystery, Victoria begins to unravel a tormented family history that reaches back through five generations - and could yet shatter the island's idyllic calm.

Review

'A taut suspenseful thriller, with echoes of Daphne du Maurier and Stephen King' Mail on Sunday

A dazzling novel by one of Britain's most acclaimed thriller writers (THE TIMES)

Llewellyn shuttles his narrative backwards and forwards through 150 years of duplicity, seafaring and plant-hunting with imagination, dash and a fine, high style... Delicious (LITERARY REVIEW)

'Right from the very first page with the grisly discovery of human remains, Llewellyn's dark, gothic novel proceeds at a cracking pace... Lewellyn's great skill lies in rounded characters and breathless plotting and with enough twists and turns to satisfy the most hardened thriller reader, this is a satisfying read from start to finish' Buzz

This is an exciting, action-packed novel, cleanly written and elegantly plotted (HARPERS & QUEEN)

'The novel's exciting, action-packed and cleverly crafted plot will appeal to readers of thrillers and serious novels alike' North Cornwall Advertiser

'Entertaining thriller' Kirkus Reviews

The author of THE SHADOW IN THE SANDS has surpassed himself with an ingenious mosaic of a mystery...Love, lust, sea tragedies and missed inheritance are beautifully framed into the drama (PUBLISHING NEWS)

A taut suspenseful thriller, with echoes of Daphne du Maurier and Stephen King (MAIL ON SUNDAY)
