This second edition of a volume on corrosion and oxidation offers an approach to the basic science underlying corrosion at both high and low temperatures, and, enlarging on a number of related areas of teaching, emphasizes the multi-disciplinary aspect of the subject. The book offers a review of metal wastage, providing background teaching in thermodynamics, chemistry and fracture mechanics to demonstrate the multi-disciplinary nature of the subject. The treatment is numerical, with data on exchange current densities, limiting currents, passivation and breakdown potential. Reference is made throughout to engineering consequences, including the treatment of flow rates, how design affects prevention of corrosion, and the analysis of corrosion products.
