Hardcover. Condition: USED_NEARFINE. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. The Observer's Book of the Cotswolds and Shakespeare Country - Observer's Book No. 73. Printer's code: 2636.977 which I believe indicates that the book was actually printed in Sep 1977. With 8 colour plates and 49 black-and-white photographs. ***Near fine in textured orange boards with black titles to the spine and front board. The covers are clean and unmarked with virtually none of the usual fading to the edges. No creases or tears. Corners sharp. No bumps. Page block edges nice and clean. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Internally the book is also near fine - extremely clean with no ownership inscriptions. Printed on nice quality paper. No marks. No creases. No cracking to the binding. Map endpapers. ***In a near fine colour illustrated dustwrapper, which has been price-clipped by the publisher, with an F. Warne publisher's price sticker of £2.95 on the front flap. The dustwrapper is complete, with just the slightest of rubbing at the extremities. No creases or tears. No browning and no fading to the titles on the spine. ***147mm x 95mm. 192 pages including a Glossary and a seven-page Index at the back of the book. ***'No other area in England has more unspoilt charm and natural beauty or more architectural treasures than the part of Gloucestershire in which the Cotswold Hills rise and swell. Cotswold stone has provided the means by which generations of craftsmen have, with loving skill, fashioned the churches, manor-houses, tithe-barns and cottages which give the area its own special character. A little further to the north-east is the Shakespeare country, a part of Warwickshire different in many ways from the Cotswolds but with its own rural charm, and made even more inviting by its associations with the poet. With Stratford-upon-Avon as a centre the visitor can follow the streams, walk through the fields and linger in the villages that Shakespeare knew; and with a little imagination can easily slip back into the Tudor past. The vivid pen pictures of the riches that the two regions have to offer are enhanced by the photographs.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***A 1978 first edition of this popular title, in beautiful collectable condition. Whilst this title in the Observer's books series is not al that uncommon, many of the books were handled by children and consequently show a lot of wear and tear. They can prove to be quite hard to track down now in such near fine condition in the original dustwrapper. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # OBS013
