Synopsis
O F Walton (1849 - 1939) also known as May Walton was a British author. She wrote Christian books for children and teens. Rosalie is envied by the girls in her town. They are convinced her life must be better than theirs. They see her beautiful white dress and her graceful dance moves but do not look any deeper. One day, Rosalie is given hope when an old man gives her a picture of a shepherd who loves her. As she meets hurting people along the way, her new mission is to tell them about the Shepherd who loves them too. This is a wonderful book for a family to read together.

First published by The Religious Tract Society in 1877, this is a first edition, first impression of the subsequent Lutterworth Press edition of 1975. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners very slightly bruised, price clipped, traces of old bookplate to ffep, no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 255pp. Amy Catherine Walton (1849-1939), born Amy Catherine Deck and better known as Mrs O. F. Walton, was an English author of Christian children's books, mainly but not exclusively fictional. She was the daughter of an Anglican priest and married his curate, with whom she spent four years living in Jerusalem. This book portrays the life of a travelling fair and in particular Rosalie, a girl who works as part of a theatre troupe under her domineering father. It was Walton's best-known work. The novel was twice turned into silent films. In 1918 Kenelm Foss directed 'A Peep Behind the Scenes' starring Ivy Close and Gerald Ames. In 1929 Jack Raymond made a further version.
