About the Author:
David Greenman began working on the books, which were the forerunners of Jane's Merchant Ships thirty-five years ago. He worked as assistant to Talbot-Booth, who originated these books in the early 'thirties. Talbot-Booth specialised in ship recognition and, in 1956, he founded the Ship Recognition Corps. This is a volunteer organisation that aims to teach its members the principles of merchant ship recognition. David Greenman has been the director of the Corps for the past twelve years and the editor of Jane's Merchant Ships for twenty years.
