Following the Battle of Gettysburg, army deserter John Terril flees south knowing he'll face a firing squad if he's caught. In Texas, he is befriended by a Mexican family and is about to marry the daughter when he becomes the victim of a terrible crime. In pursuit of the murderer Diego Armijo, who has reduced Terril's life to a living hell, he falls foul of justice and the hang-rope. Desperate to avoid the Texas Rangers, he trails Armijo into the domain of the Comanche Indians known as the Staked Plains. Here he must battle for survival before he can inflict retribution on his enemy in a deadly showdown.
