Book
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 3rd Edition. This is the shelf-worthy, 1985 first trade paper edition of the University of Queensland's "Portable Australian Authors" anthology of "Australian Science Fiction. It is the third edition overall, preceded by the now-scarce 1982 first hardcover edition, and the 1982 paperback edition. This book is in very good condition, marred only by a small amount of separated lamination on the bottom front corner of the cover, plus a shallow crease running diagonally across that corner. Otherwise this book appears unread, almost as new. Its binding is tight and square, with no reading creases. Its covers are bright (neither faded nor toned), unmarked and otherwise unworn. Its pages are lightly age-toned, unmarked and unworn. There is no remainder mark on the book. As with all Space Age Book purchases, I will ship this book in a moisture proof zip-loc bag, padded in bubble wrap, inside a sturdy box to assure it reaches its proud new owner in the same condition as my description.

Book First Edition
Small octavo, pictorial wrappers. First edition. Part of the "Portable Australian Authors" series. An excellent historical anthology of Australian SF with a generous sample of pre-1956 fiction, including selections from utopian and anti-utopian works of 1880s and 1890s. Includes a 32-page introduction, "The History of Australian Science Fiction" and notes by Ikin. Van George Ikin (b. 1951) is an "Australian academic, editor and author who began publishing SF stories with 'The Living Water' for Pocket Man in 1968, and published short work with some frequency for the next two decades. In 1977, he founded SCIENCE FICTION: A REVIEW OF SPECULATIVE LITERATURE, which he edited until 1997" (SFE online). Small trade paperback format. Bookstore stamp on the recto of the first leaf, several light cover creases, lower front corner and a few early leaves lightly bumped, but a very good, unread copy. An uncommon book. (#164769).
