This first novel by a young Irish writer is about the rite of passage of a ten year old boy on the streets of Belfast in the summer of 1969. The principle issues which characterize the Ulster troubles are explored as the tale unravels. Glenn Patterson is twenty-six and was born and bred in Belfast. In 1982 he left for the University of East Anglia, from where he graduated with an MA in Creative Writing.

Glen Patterson was born in Belfast in 1961 and from 1989 to 1991 was Writer in the community for Lisburn and Craigavon. Burning Your Own, his first novel, was awarded the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature and a Betty Trask Prize. He now lives in Manchester.
