This second novel by the author of "Flying to nowhere", which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and won the Whitbread Prize in 1983, tells of a composer's passion for a black jazz singer. There soon develops a mystery, which leads to pursuit, bewilderment and the final dissolution of his fleeting adventure. John Fuller has been a Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford for the past twenty years and is the author of many volumes of poetry and a collection of short stories, "The Adventures of Speedfall" (1985). His "Selected Poems" appeared in Penguin in 1985.
