Frank Rich was born and raised in Washington, D.C., and educated at Harvard. He became an op-ed columnist for The New York Times in 1994, after having served since 1980 as the paper's chief drama critic. He has written about culture and politics for many publications, including Time, Esquire, and The New Republic. He lives in New York City with his wife, the writer Alex Witchel.
