Created between 1936 and 1939, the photographs are a record of an enormously vital culture in the final moments before its tragic and brutal extinction. We see waifs and young Ruthenian shepherds, street pedlars and Talmudic sages - men, women and children captured in a brief moment before they were swept from history.
