Excerpt from The Thousand Islands of the St. Lawrence River: From Kingston and Cape Vincent to Morristown and Brockville
It is in no sense a money-making, scheme, the promoters being only desirous that the book shall pay its own way, as it shoul'd, and be a fair representation, up to date, of the Islands of the St. Lawrence and their present environment, and be at the same time, also, a fair illustration of the progress made up to 1894 in the art of typography and artistic decoration.
In this spirit, then, this Book is issued, in the full belief that it will fill a want which has been felt for the past three years among the intelligent and appreciative class who come annually to this section, the importance of which appears now to be permanently established.
