This book represents a compilation of the faces that defined the popular life of most of our century, as captured by the photographers of "Life M agazine", providing a portrait of the changing face of our culture. The photographs are drawn from such artists as Alfred Eisenstaedt, Philippe Halsman, Eve Arnold, Harry Benson, Margaret Bourke-White, W. Eugene-Smith, Gordon Parks and Annie Leibovitz. Many present celebrities, but others simply reflect back to readers the face of their own humanity. Each photo is accompanied by a discussion of the work and the circumstances in which it was made.
