Book Description Condition: Very Good +. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good +. London: W.H. Allen / A Howard & Wyndham Company, 1978. First UK Edition. Octavo. 246 pages. Illustrated dust jacket. Blue boards stamped in gilt. Typed letter signed by Caspary to Roland Gelatt laid in at front along with a small photo of an apparent common ancestor. Additional signed bookplate and publisher's compliments slip also laid in. In the letter, Vera touches upon her upcoming travels and her family history, which apparently is shared with Mr. Gelatt: "The third child of Moses must have been Rosalia, Leah's grandmother. I never met her but she was a fine old lady from all I have heard and nothing like her sister Emma, my grandmother who was a nasty old bitch (also according to my mother) and a Jew-hating Jew. She was a terrible snob and it must have been from her that my sister got her prejudices. "So Moses Mendel was the father of Rosalia who was your mother's grandmother. That would make you his great-great grandson." Small photo of Leah attached to letter. Caspary had a lifelong career as an author and screenwriter, best known for her romance thriller Laura. Roland Gelatt was a music critic and editor, best for known for his work, The Fabulous Phonograph. Light edgewear to unclipped dust jacket. Boards are gently worn at extremities. Binding is sound and pages unmarked. Seller Inventory # 8393
