Excerpt from Zur Indogermanischen Syntax

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a meticulous examination of the historical evolution of the Indo-Germanic language, with a particular focus on the grammatical cases of its descendant languages. The author embarks on a comprehensive journey, analyzing the development of the nominative, genetive, dative, and accusative cases in the various branches of the Indo-Germanic family tree, including Germanic and its subdivisions, as well as the Indic languages, with additional insights drawn from other branches when relevant. The exploration delves into the gradual semantic and structural transformations these cases underwent over time, tracing their transition from concrete, often locative meanings to more abstract, relational functions. Through detailed case studies and comparative analysis, the author uncovers patterns and sheds light on the underlying principles governing these changes. This in-depth examination unveils the intricate interplay between language and thought, demonstrating how linguistic structures reflect and shape our understanding of the world.
