He has been honored with the Merrick Foundation Award for teaching excellence and received the Distinguished Educator Award from the national Academy of Management for his contributions "as the foremost management historian of his generation." His research has appeared in numerous scholarly journals and he is the author of White Collar Hobo: The Travels of Whiting Williams (Iowa State University Press) and, with Ronald Greenwood, coauthor of Management Innovators: the people and Ideas that have shaped Modern Business (Oxford University Press).
