Review:
live, this has the accessible --information you need.
From the Author:
In the ten years I've been helping people start off as DJs or
help them to improve their skills, I've discovered that there are two
reasons people want to be DJs:

1) They are in love with the music, and want to use it to make something
incredible

2) They think DJing is the coolest thing in the world.

I think that in order to be a great DJ it helps to be a mix of both. Ok, it
should be one-sided so that you're more in love with the music than you are
with the idea of being a DJ, but if you don't want to put yourself out
there, stand in front of 5,000 people (or even a small group of friends)
and try to entertain them all with the music you play - then you'll never
truly develop your skills as a great DJ.

Whether you're a party DJ, a wedding DJ, a rock DJ or someone who loves to
play the pounding bass beats of electronic dance music in a club, you'll
soon find that the equipment that you use and how you use it to mix from
tune to tune supports the most important part of being a DJ - the music
you're playing to the dance floor. Reading the crowd, knowing your tunes
inside and out and playing the best music at the best time for the people
in front of you is how you make the journey from bedroom DJ to superstar
DJ.

I came to DJing because I fell in love with electronic dance music through
a good friend, then heard a mix by Sasha on Radio 1 which made me fall in
love with the idea of being a DJ. I'd spend hours practising on two
turntables and a mixer, developing beatmatching skills, thinking about the
structure of the tunes I was playing and trying to work out the best way to
mix between certain tunes and, I'd then write it all down as a way to
deconstruct what I was doing (and so I wouldn't forget it later).

The internet seemed the perfect place to hold these home-written articles
so I could have access to them no matter where I was. Little did I know
that a couple of years later, other people would stumble onto these
articles and start asking my advice as to what equipment to buy, the best
way to mix, what I thought was the best way to try to get work as a DJ -
and what to do once they got that work! So I designed a pretty ugly looking
website at recess.co.uk, which has evolved through the years, to become
the place to go on the internet if you want to learn how to DJ (and it's a
lot better looking too!).

All of the nuggets of information and unique ways of describing DJing
techniques that I've put together over the past 10 years have been built
upon and added to, and then married together with the incredibly accessible
style of the Dummies books to create DJing for Dummies. The website now
acts as a constantly evolving resource for owners of the book, as DJing is
something that some people find easier if it's demonstrated as well as
described. The website now has audio and video clips on-hand for this very
purpose, as well as information about new equipment, a forum to share
ideas, and as always, I'm just an email away from any further advice you
may need. So no longer will you need to either buy a book or a video, or
pay for an online course - buy this book, and you get all three in one!

I had a lot of fun writing DJing for Dummies, and writing it has made me
more excited about being a DJ than I ever have been in my life. I hope this
excitement rubs of on you when you read it, and I look forward to hearing
from you through the site.

Thanks

John Steventon (aka Recess).
