The healthcare sector is undergoing strong expansion worldwide, as the focus changes from 'treating illness' to 'promoting wellness' and those able and willing to pay for their health make up for the shortcomings of national systems. How things evolve will depend on whether the national systems reinvent themselves around a new model of customer value, or fail to change and become obsolete. Global in scope and insightful in its conclusions, "People as Care Catalysts" sets out an agenda for how things could develop in the new 'healthcare economy'.

From the Back Cover:
The health care sector is undergoing strong expansion worldwide, as those willing to pay for their health make up for the shortcomings of their national systems. How this landscape evolves will be shaped by how the public systems respond. If they seize the opportunity to reframe themselves and create a strong inner dynamic, then the bulk of the new market that opens up will be for complementary solutions. If they do not, then the alternative solutions will eventually render the public systems obsolete.

This area is far too complex for anyone to design a system top-down or apply outdated ideas of management by control. The old models must be reinterpreted to put customer value creation at the core. International in scope and insightful in its conclusions, People as Care Catalysts marks the cornerstones of this reinterpretation against the backdrop of a fundamental shift in how value, including welfare, is created in an post-industrial era.
