This is excellent writing, combining a beautifully complete poetic vision with a seductive narrative...."[The Clouds Above]" is both a love story and a war story, but its attractions (and they are subtle ones) do not end there.... This well-wrought, highly enjoyable novel...is a memorable piece of imaginative reconstruction. Where it succeeds best is in revealing anew the courageous men and women who kept the country safe during the war, and how the war changed them forever.
