Cover Story reveals much more of Jack McMorrow.
Many times over the past several years readers have asked me why my protagonist, Jack McMorrow, left the New York Times for the woods of Maine. Earlier books have mentioned his falling out with the management there, but Cover Story is the first McMorrow mystery to fully explore this difficult time in Jack's life. It all resurfaces when Jack goes back to the Times to discuss a job as a stringer for northern New England. He stops in a Times Square bar for a drink with an old friend, ex-homicide detective Butch Casey. The next morning, Butch is under arrest -- for the murder of New York City Mayor Johnny Fiore. Butch says he's innocent and only one person can prove it -- his reporter buddy McMorrow. Jack sets off on the trail, roaming the city's meaner streets to try to clear his friend. In the process he has to face some serious questions about himself. I think readers will know McMorrow more intimately than ever after COVER STORY. They'll also know New York City, though perhaps not the way the tourist board would like. New York is a wonderful city but it's a city with very sharp edges. It can be dangerous if not handled with care. I hope UK readers enjoy.
