Synopsis:
The new approaches which have been applied in the preparation of this edition are: the need to identify the objectives and the framework which overlie the function and recognition of the widening professional and technical aspects of the environmental health service in the UK. Whilst each chapter contains a description of the legislative framework and main legal provisions appropriate to it, the editor has avoided the verbatim quotation of large segments of law. Essentially, "Clay" is a textbook for both the pupil and the officer of whatever qualification involved in environmental health, and is a review of the law, administration and practice of the activity. It is intended that the book should also be of benefit to those other professionals (public health physicians, veterinary surgeons, micro-biologists, engineers, lawyers, housing officers, scientists and others) and their pupils who are making increasingly significant contributions to environmental health. Environmental health technicians and other support staff are now assisting in the provision of services in a rapidly expanding way, and this volume is aimed at assisting them and their trainees.
