Synopsis

Are there things in your life you would do anything to forget? Peter loves his work in an old people's home on the South Coast where he cheers up patients with Alzheimers. It helps him forget a traumatic childhood experience that has ruined his life. When he meets Dr Tavasligh, a neuropsychologist disgraced after a scientific experiement on a patient with Alzheimers went diastrously wrong, they become unlikely friends. But Dr Tavasligh is after a new patient and Peter is his prey. The sinister doctor has recently invented a mindwipe machine that can delete Peter's memories and restore him to life with a new and happier identity. Peter agrees to be his patient. But first he must tell Tavasligh everything that happened. As Peter waits for the appointed time, Tavalisgh documents the life and loves of seaside conjuror and children's entertainer Peter Ruchio, whose time on earth was ruined by a small brat at a birthday party fifteen years ago...

Review

"Fantastic, hilarious... verbal pyrotechnics, supported by a fecund imagination of the first order" (The Times)

"How to Forget is a genuinely funny romp through some of the darker areas of the human mind and some of the more life-threatening areas of mentalism and magic. An engaging and good-hearted read" (A L Kennedy)

"A smorgasbord of romantic romp, pseudo-scholarship, urban melodrama and metafictional mystery" (Time Out)

"Highly entertaining yet intelligent comic novel...Brill's sense of fun is evident on every page" (Times Literary Supplement)

"An absurd, hilarious, spy-cum-action-cum-postmodern thriller, it is incredibly clever without showing off, self-referential without being self-congratulatory, and a damn good read. Fantastic" (The List)
