In January 1999, The Manitoba Historical Society awarded BARKER VC the McWilliams Medal for best popular history book about a Manitoba subject. In April 1999, FLIGHTPATH on Discovery Channel broadcast "First of the Few", the story of William Barker, and the renaming of the airport at Dauphin, Manitoba, as "William Barker Airport" The first and second editions of BARKER VC sold 10,000 copies in hardcover and softcover.
About the Author:
Wayne Ralph was born in St. John's, Newfoundland. He trained as a pilot in the RCAF and Canadian Forces, serving as a flying instructor until 1973. He has also worked as a freelance journalist and photographer, writing articles for Airforce, Canadian Defence Quarterly, and International Defence Review, among others. He lives in White Rock, B.C.
