For more than a decade, the world's oceans have been home to Michael and Sarah Stone and their young daughter Ronnie, who live aboard the sailing yacht Veronica, bringing medical care to remote islands. But their peaceful life is shattered when a medical distress call summons Sarah and Ronnie to a gargantuan commercial vessel lying still ominous in the equatorial Pacific. Michael, left behind to tend to an ailing islander, watches with growing horror as Veronica is hauled onto the deck of the hulking metal behemoth and is carried away.
Stranded and alone a thousand miles from civilization-with only a primitive canoe at his disposal and no navigational equipment except the stars-Michael Stone must now do the impossible. He must find his kidnapped family and rescue them from the clutches of a madman. And, unbeknownst to him, Sarah and Ronnie's are not the only lives at stake...
The debut of a remarkable new writer, Fire and Ice is an electrifying tale of suspense that races through the perilous waters to the worlds most exotic ports-toward an unforgetable climax as unexpected as it is unrelentingly intense.

People
Doctors Michael and Sarah Stone have reasons of their own for cruising the remote corners of the Pacific in their hospital sailing boat. With their ten-year-old daughter Ronnie, they offer assistance to the people of the far-flung islands, and sometimes to mariners who have met with an emergency.
When they are radioed by a huge liquefied gas carrier, the 'Dallas Belle', lying off a remote atoll, it seems that just such a case has come up. Leaving Michael to investigate a tiny native canoe beached on the atoll, Sarah and Ronnie set off to the massive ship.
But his is no routine call for medical assistance. Alone on the atoll, Michael is horrified to see the 'Dallas Belle' simply sail away with his wife and child.
Hundreds of miles from even the nearest radio, he must undertake an epic journey in the half-wrecked canoe in order to find help and begin to plot a rescue.
Meanwhile, the kidnapped Sarah and Ronnie must fight to stay alive as the true horror of their situation becomes apparent – for the stone family have become caught up in an audacious and terrifying plot that will rock the world.
'Fire and Ice' is a heartstopping novel of suspense and fantastic seaborne action.
Paul Garrison has travelled extensively in the Far East. 'Fire and Ice' is his first novel.
“'Fire and Ice' is a wonderfully entertaining sea adventure, a fast-moving odyssey that delivers an exciting climax. It is a finely crafted thriller by a master storyteller. Garrison has the touch for unending intrigue.”
