I wrote Fiona's Fate straight after `Cassandra's Conflict' and before `Cassandra's Chateau'. It is very much in the style of the two Cassandra novels, and posed quite a few problems for me because it deals with the kidnapping of the heroine, and her highly charged sexual awakening by her kidnappers, plus the developing relationship between her and the leader of the group, the infamous Alessandro Trimarchi.
Most people are aware of the Stockholm Syndrome, where kidnap victims end up forming a strong bond with their kidnappers, but to have a young woman being sexually awakened by her kidnappers was taking this a lot further, and caused some controversy amongst reviewers at the time. Having the husband's more sexually sophisticated mistress kidnapped at the same time as his more shy and sexually suppressed wife, so that the two very different women undergo the entire experience together, added a delicious touch of erotic irony to the plot. In my mind these three novels, written at the start of the Black Lace series, opened many people's eyes to the fact that many, many women - as well as men - enjoy reading about the extremes of sexuality
