It was by the initiative of the Committee of commerce and by a resolution (approved June, 30, 18148) that Congress entrusted to me a complete series of the United States standard weights and measures to be presented to the Government of France. It is through the same Committee therefore that I have to convey the grateful acknowledgments I am to address to Con1 gress in the name of the french Government.
