Es gehort nachgerade zu den traditionellen Bestimmungen in der philosophischen Geschichtsschreibung, dafs Christian Wolti das Leibnizsche System „popularisiert und verflacht habe. Diese Auffassung bedarf indessen einer gewissen Revision. Ernst besehen ist das Verhältnis Wolfl's zu Leibniz keineswegs so eng, wie es für gewöhnlich hingestellt wird. Wolff ist durchaus nicht so autoritätsgläubig, wie man es ihm zumeist nachsagt. Die Einflüsse von Seiten der Cartesianischen Meta physik und. Von Christian Thomasins auf Wolff verbieten allein schon, ihn in eine allzu nahe Abhängigkeitsbeziehung gerade zu Leibniz zu rücken.
