In August 2006 , Håkan Nesser and his wife Elke (psychiatrist by profession ) moved to Greenwich Village in New York. A few years later, the couple packed up and moved to London where it was easier for his wife to find work ... With his detective novel , Människa utan hund ( Human without a dog ) , published in 2006, introduced a new character Nesser principal , Inspector Gunnar Barbarotti , a Swedish police inspector of Italian descent . Since then it has been the princial character in detective novels Nesser . Barbarotti is more optimistic than Van Veeteren character . Although the books are set in Sweden , the people of Kymlinge is fictitious and named after a ' abandoned subway station " in Stockholm ... Nesser said in an interview that has designed two more books before ending the saga of Inspector Barbarotti , one of them set in London and a final piece ..
