Know first as ICI 46,474, tamoxifen was synthesized 1962 at McArdle Laboratory with close links to the Univ of Wisconsin. In 1971 Dr. Jordan began active participation in tamoxifen research, a process that consumed more than twenty years to complete. Four years after the publication of this volume, the Oxford based Early Breast Cancer Trialists' Collaborative Group confirmed that tamoxifen saved lives in early breast cancer as suspected.
