Synopsis
Few feats of exploration match the Lewis and Clark expedition in romantic and historic interest. Following Thomas Jefferson's purchase of the huge expanse of French property west of the Mississippi known as Louisiana, Lewis and Clark were the first Americans to cross this vast interior of the American wilderness to reach the Pacific. They and their party travelled nearly 10,000 miles through wild uncharted territory, facing exposure, hardship and peril. Yet during their three years of travel only one person died and only one deserted.
