Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a rigorous analysis of the incidence of railway accidents on networks run by private companies in comparison with state-operated railways. The author challenges the commonly held assumption that private companies maintain higher safety standards. The author's research focuses on the period 1894-1909, during which time state-operated networks had a lower rate of passenger fatalities and injuries in France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Switzerland. The author argues that the perception of private companies as safer options is a myth perpetuated by biased reporting and selective use of data. This book is a valuable contribution to the debate surrounding the relative safety of private versus state-operated railways and sheds light on the importance of objective analysis in evaluating performance.
