In generale una elegante semplicità è il carattere distin tivo dell' opere Palladiane e per ottenerla si guardò m ispecie dallo spezzare e dividere gli ordini in troppe moda nature. Questo carattere ottiene poi un effetto di si evidente bellezza e di un' armonia tanto cara, che più facilmente si può sentirla, che esprimerla con parole. Maestà, ordine, proporzione, convenienza, varietà, unità, sodezza, tutto si trova in Palladio; ed è soltanto nelle sue opere scritte che l'intelletto può scorgere qualche cosa, che, dopo veduta una fabbrica di Palladio, lo possa far amare ed ammirare ancor più.
