Depuis le mois de décembre 1 888, époque à laquelle a paru le troisième fascicule des Illustrationes F loree Atlanticee, le dernier publié par le regretté docteur Cosson, quatre nou velles livraisons de cet important ouvrage ont été composées avec les matériaux qu'il avait réunis.
Le quatrième fascicule était en preparation lorsque la mort est venue enlever M. Cosson presque subitement à la science. Chargé par lui de poursuivre la publication de ses travaux en cours d'impression, je manquerais à mon devoir si je ne rappelais ici la part qu'il a prise à ce nouveau fascicule toutes les descriptions, à l'exception de celle de l'arenaria Pomelz', et aussi la plus grande partie des notes ont été rédigées avec son concours, puis revues et corrigées par lui sur le manuscrit; les vingt - cinq planches de cette livraison n'étaient encore que les essais, mais il les avait vues et approuvées; toutes avaient été des sinées sous sa direction, et l'on peut presque dire sans exagération qu'au point de vue seien tifique le quatrième fascicule, bien que posthume, est l'oeuvre de M. Cosson.
