On the sitting of the Connecticut Legislature in January, 1887, the following resolution was adopted: resolved by this Assembly, that a committee consisting of one Senator and four Representatives be appointed to investigate and report at once on the practicability and desirability of obtaining for the State the old Israel Putnam Camp Grounds in the town of Redding, on which traces of said encampment still exist, and the erecting thereon of a suitable monument or memorial.
