Dans l'espoir d'ajouter quelques faits nouveaux à nos connais sances relatives à cette branche de zoologie, j'en ai fait aussi le sujet de mes études. Mes premières observations sur les Polypes marins datent de 1827, et furent faites à Naples; l'année sui vante, pendant notre excursion aux îles Chausay, je les continuai en commun avec M. Audouin; et' l'été dernier, dans la vue de poursuivre encore ces travaux, j'ai fait un voyage sur les côtes de notre nouvelle colonie d'afrique, où la pêche du Corail, pratiquée avec activité me promettait d'abondans matériaux. Enfin j'ajouterai aus51 que je n'ai pas négligé l'examen des col lections nombreuses de Polypiers, rapportées de presque toutes les mers par les voyageurs, et conservées dans le muséum du Jardin du Roi.
