Das Wörterbuch erscheint in dieser funften Auflage, wie das Lesebuch, ganz als Wackernagels Werk. Meine Thcetigkeit dabei bestand nur in der Mundierung der Entrwge, womit der Rand fast jeder Spalte des Hand ea:emplares sich versehen fand. Nur selten forderten sie kleine und nur formelle Änderungen oder Zuthaten. Auslassungen musste ich mir einigemal erlauben, wo mir der Sinn der Randbemerkung undeutlich war; einigemal auch, wo sie von Wackernagel selbst nur frageweise hingestellt war und man mit Recht zweifeln durfte, ob sie fiir den Abdruck bestimmt weere; in ganz wenigen Fällen endlich, wo mir ein etymologischer Gedanke so kühn vorkam, dass der Autor bei nochmaliger Überlegung wohl davon abgekommen weere. Doch dies alles ist im Grund nicht der Rede werth. Darmstadt im Februar 1876.
