Ces deux hommes célèbres réunirent, pen dant quelque temps leur fortune et leur gloire; ils bâtirent un Théatre à leurs frais, et, par le seul secours de la symphonie et de la danse ils jouèrent des Tragédies et des Comédies; mais par l'effet d'une rivalité trop commune entre les gens d'art, la jalousie rompi_t leur union ils se séparèrent, et le talent, excité par l'émulation, n'y perdit rien. Deux Théatres partagèrent l'admiration de la multitude on représenta les Amours de Mars et de Vénus, les Travaux d'hercule et d'au tres Tragédies avec tant de vérité, qu'un Roi de Pont suivit aisément le fil de l'action, et, dans son transport demanda instamment à l'empereur l'acteur qui avoit joué le rôle principal. Il lui fut accordé, comme un Inter prête capable de se faire entendre des Nations barbares.
