Nous lisons dans son mémoire (p. 157) En attendant qu'on désignât l'écrivain chargé de la rédaction définitive, l'ancien secrétaire de Richelieu, Charpentier, se mettait à l'ouvrage et préparait, par un nouveau classement et dégrossissement des pièces, une suite de textes, une ébauche, qu'un meilleur ouvrier reprendrait ensuite pour la mettre en forme.
Le lecteur cherchera en vain la moindre note qui puisse servir de preuve à ces lignes.
