"Robert Jiobu" has more than 20 years of teaching experience at several universities including California State University at Los Angeles, University of Southern California, and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He currently is Associate Professor of Sociology at The Ohio State University. He has taught introductory sociology to classes of 600 students and to honors classes of 25 students. In addition to teaching Introductory Sociology, he also teaches Racial and Ethnic Relations and Statistical Analysis, both at undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Jiobu, who earned a doctorate from the University of Southern California, is a member of the American Sociological Association as well as the Association for Asian American Studies. He has published more than 25 professional articles, mostly on racial and ethnicrelations, as well as three books: "Sports: A Social Perspective; Ethnicity and Assimilation; " and "Ethnicity and Inequality." Dr. Jiobu is currently writing a monograph on immigration and work.
"Kent Schwirian" is Professor Emeritus of Sociology and a faculty member of the College of Medicine and Public Health's Primary Care Research Institute at The Ohio State University. Dr. Schwirian's broad experience as a teacher and researcher at Ohio State imbue this textbook with both scholarly expertise and a deep commitment to creating student appreciation for sociology. Dr. Schwirian, who earned his Doctorate of Philosophy in Sociology at the University of Iowa, is author and coauthor of numerous articles and research monographs on social statistics, population studies, and other topics. He has taught large classes on Introductory Sociology and smaller classes on Urban Sociology, Human Ecology, and the Community. He has published three books: "Beyond Edge Cities, Comparative Urban Structure: Studies in the Ecology of Cities" and "Contemporary Topics in Urban Sociology." Dr. Schwirian is a member of the American Sociological Association, the Population Association of America, and the American Association of University Professors, in addition to numerous other professional memberships.
