Klein is Director of the Center for Latin American Studies, Professor of History, and Hoover Senior Fellow at Stanford University and Gouverneur Morris Emeritus Professor at Columbia University. Ben Vinson III is Director of the Center for Africana Studies and Professor of History at Johns Hopkins University.
