Synopsis

She was touched by the beauty of the night sky and by its mystery, too. And even though girls in the early nineteenth century did not normally take up astronomy, Maria determined to learn more. The real Maria Mitchell became one of America's first scientists; she was the first American woman to discover a comet and a devoted teacher at Vassar College who encouraged girls to study astronomy and science. I hope this book inspired by her life will encourage readers (young and old) to reach for the stars, just as she did.
