About the Author:
WILLIAM SOMERSET MAUGHAM was born in 1874 and was educated at Canterbury and Heidelberg. He considered a career in medicine, but after the publication of his first novel, became a writer instead. His output was prolific, including novels, plays, short stories and works of non-fiction. He became a Companion of Honour in 1954 and died in 1965.
