James's last completed novel, THE GOLDEN BOWL is perhaps also the most mysteriously emblematic and hypnotic, exploring the realities of desire, betrayal and kinship loyalties through the medium of a bowl obtained from a London curio shop. American heiress Maggie is struggling to rectify the fraught relationships between herself, her devoted father Adam and her inattentive husband, the impoverished Italian Prince Amerigo. But when the golden bowl falls into her possession - its perfect surface concealing a flaw which also provides the key to its true nature - it inadvertently reveals a surprising truth about Maggie's own circumstances and hopes for a better future.
